Introduction
I haven't played since graduating college last year, and I don't know too many gamers in the area. I'm primarily interested in pen and paper games, preferably those that don't involve 3 hours of hex-based arguments.
What genre do you like and dislike to play?
Fantasy: a middle ground between Lieber-like grit and Exalted-esque myth. The Faerun of Baldur's Gate II is my idea of fun. SF: dystopias and post-apocalypse. If we're playing space opera, I'd rather be the Rebellion than the Empire or the Republic.
What Role-Playing systems do you prefer to play or avoid?
Like: any D&D before 4, Deadlands, Call of Cthulhu, d6 Star Wars, Shadowrun. Dislike: Exalted and anything set in the modern world with magic, though I'm always willing to be convinced otherwise.
What kind of books or magazines do you like or dislike?
sf and fantasy with strong, consistent world-building (favorites include ASOIAF, Richard K. Morgan, Gateway, Doomsday Book). I enjoy history (especially the American Civil War) and anthropology.
What TV Shows/Movies do you like or dislike?
TV: The Wire (best dystopia ever), Venture Bros, Babylon 5, movies: Children of Men, Dr. Strangelove, Black Robe, The Friends of Eddie Coyle
What kind of Role-Player do you consider yourself to be?
My main interest is being involved in a compelling, intricate stories that pay off in the end. I enjoy combat, role-playing and intra-group strategizing, but don't feel that any one needs to dominate a game. I prefer to play, but enjoy DMing.
