i'd also prefer tomorrow night. I don't mind the location or the time - i just want to be able to get there and back. As for next week - not sure that will work for me - deadline is nearing, and with that, it is getting tricky to find time for anything else... So, i vote for tomorrow.

So guys, i'd like to know what is happening today. I amm down for having the one-shot. Currently, i am at Kendall, and can be at any (previously) indicated Red-Line stop within 20 minutes of notification for pick up. Let me know when and were we are meeting.

If at all possible I'd really love to move it to next week. I relalise that's not ideal, but my schedule is getting shaken around all day. My son show got now moved as well (based on popular demand)? I'll provide free drinks on the house to make up for the delay ;-)

So now i am consfused. While it would be possible for me to also play next week, i'd prefer this week. As i said, deadline is nearing, and that mans less time for anything but work. So, if it must be shifted, i can arrange it... i think

Thanks for your understanding guys, I'll change the schedule.
See you next week. Do you still want to change the location.
I'm flexible, I can host, we can do Cambridge/Sommerville or I can get a room at the Watertown library ...

Is there room for another for this one off? I recieved BW Gold in the mail the other day and would like to try it out.

There certainly is room for another. Let's get the scheduling for this Friday out of the way. We can try to play at the library (Watertown), my place (Newton) or another place if that's more convienent for everyone. If possible let's try to get that hashed out by the end of tomorrow so we won't scramble like last week (my fault I admit).

If this is really happening (sorry, i am a little sceptical right now), i don't mind either location, however, something near the Kendall/Havard would be preferable from my perspective. Oh, and i am still in.

You'll will be given characters to choose from. This is intended as a one shot to get the system tested and get a feel for it. I don't want to spend to much time on character creation. Once we got the location hashed out we can determine who's going to be who ...

Christian, I am very interestd in the one-shot but getting weary of all the back and forth with people who don't have a car or are just "lazy" and will only play if it is at their house. I respectfully request that you regain control of your event, by setting a date, and a place and then not changing it. You're never going to be able to please everyone. You'll see by your RSVPs whether or not you've got enough to play. To everyone else...don't RSVP if you can't get to the location.

I'm not aware of anyone at any point saying they could only make it if it was at their house, and all of the conversation about getting rides was as far as I can tell an effort to arrange transportation and nothing more. I'm not sure that it's constructive to characterize those efforts as lazy. By which I mean I am certain it is not constructive.

    Bill et al,

This is getting really dramatic. If we can't cut through the treacle and just decide when and where to play the damned game, you can count me out.

I've got enough legitimate drama to deal with in my own life, thanks.

I say, stick to the plan, guys. That means, Christians place, 18:30, Friday. Does anyone (and that especially goes towards christian) have reason why this is not a good choice ? And whining about the distance is not a valid reason (i have to go far too).

I was being funny while offering use of my condo, which is closer to several of the players. That said, I'm not actually going to be able to make it this week. Please don't reschedule on my account, though. I'll try to catch the next one.

I can meet people here in Kendall and give them a ride if that helps.
There is parking in my drive way for probably 4-5 cars, and more room on the street (Langdon). Let me know if you need help getting there.

I'd be interested in playing a bard-type character if that's ok. In addition, will I need to bring anything? I've never played Burning Wheel before, so I don't have any specific literature on the game.

I'll play whatever. My main interest is seeing how the game plays out in action. So I guess someone with at least one weapons skill so I can see how combat works. Dwarf, if there is one.

I will be bringing my Burning Wheek Golg PHB, a suitable dwarven mini, and some dice I painted the pips on for BW play.

I talked about the Burning Wheel (BW) with a co-worker of mine who is very familiar with the game. Apparently, "The Gift" is a famous one-shot for BW. I don't feel like I got enough of a taste of the game with this one-shot. I was informed of another famous BW one-shot called "The Sword." This one involves some P vs P and will demonstrate the combat aspects of the game. So while I am not interested in doing a repeat, even with a different character, I am interested in trying "The Sword."

Sounds good I'm up for it. I liked the idea of the gift as it really highlights the character driven approach of roleplaying vs. The standard fare. I'll schedule a second shot. Same place and time? who's interested and who wants to GM...

It was good, great folks, Drinks ans stories. We didnt end up with as much conflict as I thought. I think it's a bit of shift in approach compared to your classic D&D. I'm interested to see how the same scenario will play out a second time.

Need to try this again in order to get a better feel for the mechanics. I am not really fond of PvP and I think this aspect was lost on most of us at the time.
  • Ed
I did not get enough of the game flavor or mechanics out of this particular one-shot, "The Gift."
